Abstract

On May 14, 2020 Professor S. B. Singh celebrated his 52nd birthday. To mark this event and to recognize his numerous and significant contributions to the field of Reliability and Applied Mathematics, we prepared this special issue of Reliability Engineering and its Applications which contains 26 articles contributed by authors who are well-known experts in their areas of research. Dr. S. B. Singh received his education from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India; Rajasthan University, Jaipur, India; St. John’s College, Agra India; and Meerut University (now C.C.S. University), Meerut, India. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Institute of Advance Studies, C.C.S. University, Meerut. Presently, he is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India. He has around 25 years of research/teaching experience to Undergraduate and Post Graduate students at different Engineering Colleges and University. He is a member of Indian Mathematical Society, Operations Research Society of India, National Society for Prevention of Blindness in India, Intellectual Society for Socio-Techno Welfare (ISST) and Indian Science Congress Association. He is a regular reviewer of many books and International Journals. Under his guidance, 16 scholars got their Ph.D. degree and five scholars are continuing their Ph.D. work. 16 Postgraduate students also completed their thesis under his guidance and one is pursuing. Prof. Singh has been member of Research Advisory Committee of several M.Sc. (Maths), Ph.D. (Maths), M. Tech., Ph.D. (Physics, Engineering, Home Science) students. He is an Editor-in- Chief of the “Journal of Reliability and Statistical Studies”. He has authored and co-authored eight books on different courses of Applied/ Engineering Mathematics. Prof. Singh also co-edited two books. He has been conferred with five national awards: (i) “Meritorious Educational Excellence Award” a national award by Global Society for Health and Educational Growth, New Delhi (ii) “Rashtriya Shiksha Ratan Award” a national award by All India Business, Development Association, New Delhi, (iii)) “Vikas Ratan Gold Award” a national award by International Integration Growth Society, New Delhi, (iv) “Vijay Ratan Award” for outstanding services, achievements and contribution by Indian International Friendship Society, (v) “Global Teacher Role Model Award 2016” by Manushybal Vikash Loksewa Academy (MVLA) Mumbai, Maharashtra in recognition of meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role as a professor and a best teacher award. He has been included in the special edition of Marquis Who's Who in the World 2015, USA. He has published/ presented more than 125 research papers at national and international journals of repute and conferences. Prof. Singh has been member of organizing committee of several national and international conferences. His area of research is Reliability Theory/Engineering. Apart from research works, he is a devoted and very dedicated teacher. He is very popular among students because of his teaching skills. Students feel very happy the way he used to inspire them especially when they have low morale. Many times students’ feel that Prof. Singh used to put more efforts for teaching then the students do. Prof. Singh usually not looking for any particular day whether it’s a Sunday, just focusing on one thing that he has to give the best to his students. The main thing that students learned is always try to remain calm in situations and just give your best whatever the result may be. Prof. Singh’s devotion, dedication and punctuality motivate the students in such a way that they felt like if they would be a teacher they have to be like him. Because anyone can opt the profession of teaching if he/she possesses required degree. But to be a good teacher it just require much more efforts than just a degree. I have got this too from you. It’s important to be a good human being with values in life and more important with punctuality. Perhaps his greatest contribution apart from aforementioned facts is the ethical values he tries to inculcate among his undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. students as a teacher is worth mentioning. As, your first Ph.D. scholar and Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Mathematical, Engineering and Management Sciences, I am honoured to dedicate this Special Issue to you Sir and I really hope that you will enjoy and appreciate my effort. Also, I would like to thank all the authors and reviewers for their availability for this special issue.
